What should I do if my water heater is leaking from the top?

If water is leaking from the top, close the cold-water shutoff on top of the tank and cut power to the unit or turn off the water heater at the control knob, then call for service. AirCo provides 24/7 emergency water heater help with same-day service. Top leaks often involve fittings, the T&P valve, or supply lines. We service gas, electric, and tankless units in Fort Worth and Dallas.

  • Turn the cold-water valve clockwise to Off.
  • Gas: set the gas control to Off. Electric: switch off the breaker.
  • Catch water with a pan or towels. Do not cap the T&P valve.
  • Call AirCo for repair or replacement.
